Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence!

The wine cellar of The Groveland Hotel

We are thrilled to announce that, for the second year running, The Cellar Door Restaurant has been awarded the Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence! We are one of only 878 restaurants in the world with this honor.

According to Wine Spectator, The Best of Award of Excellence is: ”Our second-tier award, created to give special recognition to restaurants that clearly exceed the requirements of the Award of Excellence. These lists typically offer 400 or more selections, along with superior presentation, and display either vintage depth, with several vertical offerings of top wines, or excellent breadth across several wine regions.”

Most of our guests are unaware that a generous portion of the space underneath the dining room is actually a wine cellar! Nestled against the stone foundation, hand-laid by the Chinese in 1849, are over 600 labels of wines for every budget, from all over the world. The temperature is an even 62 degrees year-round, naturally cooled by the earth itself. We occasionally open up our cellar for tours, so the next time you’re in, see if someone is available to show you around in our “secret stash.” Or maybe not-so-secret, thanks to Wine Spectator!
